Special Events

The Building Men Program will offer a variety of special events for the young men over the course of the school year. These events include but are not limited to: Leadership Conference, Day of Peace, mid-winter community service project and 3 v 3 basketball tournament and mini lock ins.

Leadership Conference
The young men will participate in an adult learning environment to help them create a strategic plan for future success.  The young men will meet in a workshop setting to learn and prepare for success.  The Leadership Conference will include motivational speakers, personal development workshops, and strategies to engage the boy’s heart into the process of becoming their authentic self.

Day of Peace
The Day of Peace is a mini conference attending by the high school students that revolves are around mental, social, and spiritual health.  After an inspiring presentation from an expert, the boys will discuss with their peers the challenges, success, and roadblocks they experience in each area.  In Mental Health we are talking about your thinking and mindset

Your social healthy we will be talking about friendship and being part of a brotherhood.

When we are talking about spiritual health, we are referring to the truths that are inside each one of you whether you believe in God or a High Power.  The spiritual aspect of being “A” man: love, joy, happiness, peace, fulfillment, abundance, belonging, value, and worth.

Mid-Winter Break Community Service
A Building Men tradition for over a dozen years, over mid-winter break.  The boys come together to play various physical activities, eat lunch, make friends and most importantly make bag lunches for the homeless men of Syracuse.  The young men make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and pack the bag lunches with chips, cookies, crackers, and inspirational notes.  The young give first and receive second.

Mid-Winter Break 3 v 3 Basketball Tournament
All schools are invited to bring teams of three or four young men from their Building Men Programs for a fun day of basketball and character. The day starts with open gym warmups, and registration, creating the round robin bracket and the Building Men Creed.  The round robin tournament is played to seed the teams for the single elimination tournament.  The young men enjoy lunch followed by the 3 v 3 tournament.  The tournament is followed by the presentation of character coins and trophies.

Mini Lock In
Some middle schools spend the evening (3:00 to 7:30 pm) building relationships and memories.  The Lock in features, basketball, dinner, alumni speakers, character activities, and dodgeball games.
